Hire a freelance web developer and AWS engineer

I design and build web products end to end — Next.js and React in front, Python or TypeScript behind, AWS and Terraform underneath. I work from Costa Rica on United States hours, as one accountable person rather than an account manager and a rotating bench.

01 — What I build — Software development services I offer

Four kinds of work
01

Web products, end to end

From an empty repository to something your customers use. I take the whole path — interface, API, database, authentication, and the pipeline that deploys it — so there is no seam where the work stops being someone's responsibility.

  • Next.js and React front ends
  • Python or TypeScript APIs
  • Auth, payments, and third-party integrations
  • CI/CD and a production deploy you can repeat
02

AWS infrastructure and platform work

The part most freelancers hand back as a console screenshot. I define infrastructure in Terraform, across multi-account environments, with the observability and alarms that tell you something broke before a customer does.

  • Terraform modules and multi-account layouts
  • Serverless: Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3
  • Logging, metrics, tracing, and alarms
  • Cost review — what you are paying for and why
03

Modernization and rescue work

Services nobody wants to touch, a test suite that fails at random, a migration that stalled halfway. This is most of what I have done professionally, and it is the work I find genuinely interesting.

  • Legacy refactors with tests added first
  • Hardening authentication between services
  • Cloud migrations and framework upgrades
  • Written decision records, so the next person knows why
04

Sites built to be found

A marketing site is an acquisition channel or it is a brochure. I build them in Next.js with search as a design constraint from the first commit — structure, metadata, performance, and content that answers what people actually type.

  • Next.js sites with structured data and clean metadata
  • Multilingual builds where the market needs them
  • Core Web Vitals treated as a requirement, not a report
  • Analytics wired up so you can see what worked

02 — How to work together — Engagement models and pricing

Priced by scope, not by hour

Project

From $5,000 USD

Defined scope, fixed price, a date. Best when you know what you want built.

Embedded

$5,500–$7,500 /mo

I join your team for a set number of days a week and work like any other engineer in it.

Retainer

Quoted per scopeMonthly, cancellable

Ongoing maintenance, infrastructure, and a standing block of hours for whatever comes up.

Need more than one engineer? That is a team, not a contract — see how hiring in Costa Rica works.

03 — How it runs — What working with me looks like, step by step

  1. 01

    A call, not a form

Thirty minutes to hear the problem and tell you honestly whether I am the right person for it. If I am not, I will say so — and where I can, point you somewhere better.

  2. 02

    A written proposal

Scope, price, timeline, and what is explicitly out of scope, in writing before anyone signs anything. No hourly surprises.

  3. 03

    Build in the open

Work lands in your repository from day one. You get a client portal to raise issues and follow progress, and a demo at the end of every week — not a reveal at the end of the project.

  4. 04

    Handover you can use

Infrastructure as code, a runbook, and documentation written for whoever inherits it. If a system needs me specifically in order to keep running, I built it wrong.

04 — Questions — Frequently asked questions about hiring a freelance web developer

What does it cost to hire a freelance web developer?

Projects start at $5,000 USD and are priced by scope rather than by hour. Embedded work — where I join your team for a set number of days a week — runs $5,500–$7,500 per month. Every engagement gets a written proposal with a fixed number in it before anything starts.

How do you work with teams in the United States?

I am in Costa Rica, which sits at UTC−6 and does not change clocks for daylight saving. In practice that means the same working day as Chicago, an hour or two behind New York, and an hour or two ahead of California — close enough that standups, pairing, and an incident call all happen in normal hours for both sides.

Who owns the code you write?

You do. Work goes into your repositories and your cloud accounts as it is written, not at the end. There is no proprietary framework you have to keep paying me to maintain.

Do you work in English?

Yes — English and Spanish, both professionally. Every team I have worked with for the last several years has been English-speaking and mostly US-based.

What if I need more than one engineer?

Then the answer is a team rather than a contractor, and that is a different conversation — one I am also set up to have. I am building an engineering team in Costa Rica and can staff a pod or hire one for you.
